While I was writing the play, I didn't want to just create a fun story, I wanted to provide the audience with some life lessons or messages that hopefully benefit anyone as they go through their own journey. The following are shown throughout the play, whether it is direct or not.
1) Be Yourself.
There will be people throughout your life trying to change your personality and claim you could be better, but it's so important you stay true to yourself and do what makes you happy. No one is perfect so you cannot get mad at yourself for doing something "wrong" or "bad" because it may just not be your strength, but there are plenty of other things that you excel at. The people that don't appreciate your differences don't deserve to be in your life and those who want to be around you will love you for being you
2) You're not alone.
It's okay to have bad days; just remember that there will always be people to help you through it. You are never in it by yourself and refrain from keeping all of your emotions inside of you. Humans have not evolved into mind readers yet so that means if something is bothering you, talk about it. Choose someone you trust whether it's family, friends, professional therapists, or even your dog, release your inner thoughts. They may be able to give you some advice or at the very least, validate and sympathize.
3) Vocalize your appreciation. More than you think.
Always remember to tell your loved ones how thankful you are for them. Compliments go a long way and you never know how much of an impact it will make on that person. You don't want them to think that you don't appreciate everything they do for you. Think of how good it makes you feel when you are acknowledged for doing the right thing. As sad as it is, there's a chance that this specific time you are talking with them may be the last.
4) You come first.
People will always be asking for favors or requests all of the time and if you are a decent human being, you will say yes. That's not a bad thing; nice and supportive people are my favorite and there is nothing wrong with helping whoever may need it. But there is a limit. It's crucial to consider your needs before anyone else's. If you are constantly trying to solve everyone else's problems, you will always leave out yourself. Take time out of your schedule to do what you want to do while still caring for those around you.
5) Life isn't always how you want it to go. And that's okay.
You can never control everything that life has in store for you. Some people have a great life with no issues, but then there is the majority of people who had to work hard to get to where they are now. Whenever you convince yourself that life can never get better is just a recipe for disaster. Optimism is one of my favorite concepts. Taking a bad situation and seeing the bright side of it. Life has to go down sometimes to prepare for the good. Everything, whether good or bad makes you into who you are.
